LUXEMBOURG

Attending the 80th anniversary commemoration in Ettelbruck, Luxembourg, was an unforgettable experience filled with moments of reflection, connection, and tribute. Laying a wreath at General Patton’s tomb was a deeply moving act, made even more meaningful as I stood alongside his grandson, Benjamin Patton, and great-grandson, Tiger. The weekend’s events brought together dignitaries, historians, and military representatives, culminating in a powerful military parade that honored the sacrifices of those who fought for liberation.

One of the most memorable encounters of the trip was meeting Madame Marie Siedler Thill, a 93-year-old survivor of the German occupation. Speaking with her in French, I listened as she shared her remarkable story of survival and resilience, a conversation that will stay with me forever. Sitting down with university students at the Patton Museum for a roundtable discussion reinforced the importance of preserving these histories and ensuring that future generations never forget the courage and sacrifices of those who came before us.
